San Antonio, one of the fastest-growing US metro areas, is tapping the bond market for almost $1 billion as part of an ambitious program to expand and improve its airport.
The Texas city, home to Victor Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs basketball team, is seeking to borrow about $944 million to help finance a 20-year development plan at accommodating increased passenger demand and beefing up operating efficiency at the airport. The cornerstone of the project involves construction of a new terminal with up to 18 gates and more than 850,000 square feet of space, at a cost of roughly $1.7 billion.
