Prosecutors in Napa County charged Paul Pelosi, Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s husband, with a misdemeanor hit-and-run Friday after he was involved in a crash in Northern California earlier this month. Pelosi, 86, was charged in connection with a July 3 collision “in which he allegedly struck an unoccupied parked vehicle” before leaving the scene of the crash, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. He faces one misdemeanor charge for being involved in a collision and not stopping to provide information, which carries a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine or six months in county jail, or both. He also faces a lesser charge for making an unlawful turn. Pelosi is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 14. The incident did not appear to have involved alcohol, and Pelosi was not arrested following the crash, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said earlier this month. Police found Pelosi not far from the site of the crash on July 3 in his car, which had sustained “significant damage” that was “consistent with the recent crash,” according to the sheriff. A spokesperson for the Pelosi family told NBC News the day after the crash that Pelosi had “personally apologized” to the owner of the vehicle he collided with and “assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle.” The spokesperson added that the former House speaker “will not be commenting further on this private matter.” Paul Pelosi, who was the victim in a physical attack at his home in 2024 when a man assaulted him with a hammer, previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after he was involved in a separate car crash incident in the same area in 2022. He was sentenced to five days in jail in August of that year.
