A person has been admitted to hospital after a ship reportedly collided with a crane in the Port of Tyne, police have said.
Emergency services were called to the scene in South Shields just after 1pm on Sunday, according to Northumbria Police.
“It was reported that, for reasons yet to be established, a ship had collided with a crane,” the force said.
“Emergency services attended and a man was found to have sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
“He was taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains.
“Enquiries remain ongoing to fully understand the circumstances.”
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance said: “We dispatched three double crewed ambulances, two clinical team leaders, a duty officer, three vehicles from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and were supported by Great North Air Ambulance Service.
“One patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
“One of our HART vehicles remains at the scene on standby to support the fire service.”
