Duchess of Kent leaves £1.4 million fortune to children and charities The Duchess of Kent passed away last year at the age of 92, with the details of her will now being shared as a series of probate documents were released The details of Katharine, Duchess of Kent’s will have been revealed, with her million-pound fortune being left to her children and select charities. The much-loved Duchess died in September 2025 at the age of 92, surrounded by her family at her home of Wren House, Kensington Palace. Now, 10 months later, probate records released on Monday show that she left the majority of her seven-figure fortune to her three children, George Windsor, who is Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor, and Lord Nicholas Windsor. The probate records reveal the Duchess, who was married for 64 years to the late Queen's cousin, the Duke of Kent, left £1,433,696 in the UK, reduced to a net estate of £1,433,206 after payment of liabilities. The late Duchess also left £10,000 to the charity Future Talent Musicians, which the Duchess co-founded in 2004 to help gifted young musicians from low income backgrounds. There were also legacies of £5,000 each to her nine godchildren Catherine Cameron, Tania Astor, Clare Kerr, Amabel Kerr, Emma Scott, Christopher Morrell, Edward Marsh, Andrew Burley and George Anandraj. All of her personal items - which include jewellery, furniture and miscellaneous household items - have been left to her husband, the Duke of Kent, although her will stated that he should distribute any items in accordance with her wishes. Probate records reveal her will was drawn up on October 5, 2022 and were signed ‘Katharine Kent’, which were witnessed by a personal assistant and an occupational therapist. The will stipulated that her interest in a property in Edwardes Square, Kensington, west London, be left to her grandson Edward Edmund Maximilian George Windsor, the Baron Downpatrick. The Duchess also left the income from interest in her family trust - the Worsley Settlement - to her husband the Duke of Kent during his lifetime. The wills of senior members of the Royal Family are normally sealed and kept private for at least 90 years, but the will of the Duchess is thought to have been made public due to her having stepped down from royal duties in 2002. When she passed away last year, the Prince and Princess of Wales led tributes to the Duchess, who was the oldest living member of the Royal Family at the time. William and Kate said: “Our thoughts today are with The Duke of Kent and his family, particularly George, Helen and Nicholas. The Duchess worked tirelessly to help others and supported many causes, including through her love of music. She will be a much missed member of the family.”
