Waitrose says a batch of one of its chocolate chip products could be unsafe to eat and have told people to return them for a refund
Waitrose has issued a "do not eat" warning over fears that a batch of one of it's products could contain dangerous hard plastic and metal.
The supermarket giant issued the warning about its Waitrose & Partners 8 Chocolate Chip Brioche Rolls with batch code B26177 and best before date of July 26.
A statement said customers should not consume the product but instead package the item up and return it to their local store to get a full refund.
The Food Standards Agency confirmed the product may be unsafe to eat. It said: "Waitrose & Partners are recalling the product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
"If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest Waitrose & Partners branch for a full refund. For further information, please contact Waitrose customer care on 0800 188 884 Option 4."
Waitrose added: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
