The blaze started at around 5.45am on Tuesday, July 21, and caused significant damage to the station, which remains closed for repair works. British Transport Police said the boys - aged 13, 15, and 16 - were arrested on Tuesday evening in Paignton and were taken into police custody for questioning. They have since been released on conditional bail. The fire damaged the signalling system and infrastructure around the station, halting all journeys in and out of Paignton, reports Devon Live. National Rail said: "There was a fire at Paignton station yesterday. This has closed all lines running to/from this station. "The fire has caused damage to the signalling system and the infrastructure around the station. "Whilst repairs remain ongoing throughout today, trains will be unable to run between Torquay and Paignton." While the repairs are made, trains to Paignton will stop at Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids. More journeys between Newton Abbot and Torquay are expected to run in the meantime. British Transport Police said in a statement: "Three boys – aged 13, 15 and 16 – have been arrested on suspicion of Arson as part of a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation into a fire at Paignton railway station yesterday (21 July). "They were arrested on the evening of Tuesday 21 July in the Paignton area and taken to police custody to be questioned by detectives. The boys have been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue. "We were called at 6am on 21 July to reports of a fire at Paignton railway station. Officers responded with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. There were no reports of any injuries. "Detectives are still appealing for anyone with information that could assist their ongoing investigation to come forward, either by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 73 of 21 July.
