Reuben Reynolds died following the incident at the property in on Brownmoor Lane in Crosby, Merseyside last Saturday, with an inquest now having opened at Bootle Town Hall.
After being located in the pond, Reuben was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital by ambulance where he died at 10.57pm on Sunday.
A post-mortem is yet to be carried out but is expected to take place this week, senior coroner Anita Bhardwaj explained to the court. A full inquest has not yet been listed with its date depending on the post mortem.
Evidence, read to the court by coroner's officer Laura Daniels, said: "On Saturday, July 18, Reuben was located face down in a pond in the rear garden of the property in Crosby."
