Friends legend claims dead mother has 'texted her' from the afterlife The actress shared a baffling real-life story involving her mum, Nedra Stern — who died in 2020 — and what she suggests could be eerie messages from beyond the grave A beloved Friends actor has claimed that her late mother texted her "from the beyond". Lisa Kudrow captured the nation's hearts as the eccentric Phoebe Buffay in the beloved US sitcom. One example of the character's quirkiness is The One with the Cat, in which Phoebe becomes convinced a stray cat plays host to the spirit of her late mum. It seems sometimes life really does imitate art, as the actress has now shared a baffling real-life story involving her mum, Nedra Stern — who died in 2020 — and what she suggests could be messages from beyond the grave. Speaking to Mayim Bialik, who played neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler in The Big Bang Theory, Lisa explained how her father, a doctor, would take care of her mum, checking her urine for UTIs and "did not wanna let her go". But once she passed away, something strange occurred. Lisa said on Mayim Bialik's Breakdown podcast: "So, okay, when she passed away, my brother was up when he got the call. "It was like 2:30, like almost 3:00 in the morning. My father was up when he got the call. My husband was up. She loved my husband. My sister and her husband, their alarm went off in their bedroom. She continued: "Everything's on his phone. He was like, 'Breach, master bedroom. I don't see a breach', like, nothing happened. And my sister, who could be really unnerved by an alarm going off and wake her up, was fine, calm, not scared." She added: "I woke up because my brother called me. So after she passed away, they're exchanging these stories, and everyone is a little, 'Isn't it weird, though, that I was up? "Isn't it weird that you had that alarm?' And I'm saying it's not weird at all. She flew around and woke everybody up when she passed. I don't think that's weird at all, except she didn't wake me up." Later, Lisa assembled a slideshow for the funeral. She says at the time, she was selecting photos while texting — but wasn't speaking aloud — when she noticed something bizarre. She said: "And then I get another text and I open it up, and it's as if I've already responded. There's some writing in the box, message box. And, like, I didn't write that. "It said in all caps, 'M-O-M', no cursor and no suggestion, Mommy? But I'm not noticing that. I'm just saying, 'I didn't write that'. Delete, delete, delete. And answer them because I'm busy. I've got a task to do. Don't have time for a quirky phone." She continued: "And then another text. 'What? M-O-M all caps. I didn't write that'. Delete. Delete. Delete. And I'm answering. I'm still not connecting. And then I think it happened one more time. I went, 'Why is this? Oh, because I'm thinking about my mom'. I'm doing that, but I'm not speaking." A couple of days later, Lisa was with her husband, Michel Stern, and a friend when Michael revealed that his phone had been "weird" of late, a sentiment that Lisa could, of course, sympathise with. Having explained the "MOM" incident, Lisa said her friend told her: "Lisa, your mom texted you", with Lisa adding "from the beyond". But that wasn't the end of the matter. In fact, her mum seemingly messaged her "another time". She said this time, the eerie text appeared during the Covid lockdown period. Lisa said she'd been texting a friend, only for a mysterious "XOXOXO" to appear. However, Lisa thought at the time that her mum didn't sign things this way. The next day, though, her dad told her that he'd been looking at old letters and had found one from her mum. She'd been 18 at the time, and her dad had been drafted. "And at the end, half a page, XOXOXOXO all over the page," she added.
