Man dead and three others rushed to hospital after 'explosion' at Bedford industrial estate Bedfordshire Police said a suspected explosion ripped through an industrial unit on Brunel Road in Bedford A man has been killed and three others rushed to hospital following a "suspected explosion" on an industrial estate. Bedfordshire Police said officers were called to reports of the blast at an industrial unit on Brunel Road in Bedford. One local, who was in the area at the time, posted on social media saying "it sounded like a bomb going off". Another post commented on the police post saying: "Did sound like an explosion of some sort, followed by the sound of lots of debris falling". The force said officers attended at around 3:50pm. "One man died at the scene and three others have been taken to hospital to receive medical treatment," a police statement said. Officers are set to remain on site until the investigation is handed over to the Health and Safety Executive in due course. People have been asked to refrain from speculating about the incident on social media, out of respect for the family and friends of those involved. An initial cordon put in place for people's safety had since been removed and all roads surrounding the incident have now been re-opened, police said.
