Adam Ramsay-Peaty breaks down in tears after settling for bronze

Afterwards, Ramsay-Peaty, whose alleged dispute with his own family became a major distraction during his marriage earlier this year, was visibly emotional as he criticised the media which he insisted had written “rubbish” about his personal life. “I know the s--- I’ve been through, which is no fault of my own, to be honest,” said Ramsay-Peaty, who lost his 100m breaststroke crown two years ago at the Paris Olympics. “But it does take a toll. The choices I’ve made over the last few months have been hard ones. But I’m happy at the same time that I can get here. I didn’t quit in Paris, but I deserve more.” He added: “You don’t know who I am and people who comment, people who see the story because you read a headline, they’ve got to look themselves in the mirror,” Ramsay-Peaty told a group of reporters. “You can’t hurt me. For me, it’s about my family and that does come at a cost. Being able to ignore that and being able to focus on my job – that hasn’t played a part in a sense of what we’re experiencing today. “I’m still happy with that result. There’s some sense, but it has to, it has to stop. You know, look how many, how many athletes, how many people have to go for this until the media learn [a] lesson?” Referencing Nowacki, the 18-year-old sensation from Jersey who has long been regarded as Ramsay-Peaty’s breaststroke successor, he added; “You have to learn and do better. You know, and for me, you know, I don’t want a young Filip one day to go through something like that, or these younger athletes. “For me, that’s part of what I have to go through. I’ve got no control over that. But I think enough is enough. This is away from sport – it’s just about being decent people.” After receiving his bronze medal, Ramsay-Peaty approached his wife, with whom he is expecting a child in December, and kissed her baby bump.
