But in an interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, he described the bichon poo – a cross between a bichon frisé and a poodle - as having "that angry little man thing going on". He said he was worried his pet would clash with Downing Street mouser Larry the cat - and the nation would not thank him if the two clashed. It means Axel, who was adopted through the Dog Trust, will remain up north - but with the PM working from No10 North at least once a week, he will still get quality time with his owner. Ms Kuenssberg asked: "I don't know what is with this country's obsession with politicians' pets, but you have a family dog, Axel Burnham." Mr Burnham interruped to describe him as "Famous Axel". The BBC journalist asked whether he is going to Downing Street or staying up north. The Prime Minister replied: "I think he's going to have to stay up north I think because he's kind of got that angry little man thing going on. "You know he's a he's got a bit of poodle in him. He's a bichon poo I think they call it, or a pooch on whatever that whatever the phrase is. He wouldn't get on with Larry let me put it that way. "And I don't think the nation would thank me would they if I brought Axel down to disturb Larry's world. So I think staying up here I think. "These are the big decisions that have been made." In recent years other Prime Ministers have brought their dogs with them when they moved into Downing Street. Boris Johnson's unruly Jack Russell cross Dilyn who used to cling on to guests' legs, unable to control what his owner described as "romantic urges". Better behaved was Rishi Sunak's dog, Labrador Retriever Nova. She joined the Sunak family as a puppy in 2021 and was frequently pictured with her Prime Minister owner during his tenure.
