Cabo Verde stunner gets people's vote as best World Cup goal

Cabo Verde's amazing World Cup has been capped off by Sidny Lopes Cabral winning the goal of the tournament for his strike against Argentina. His curling shot in the corner beat Uzbekistan's Eldor Shomurodov's lob against DR Congo and Wilson Isidor's cracker for Haiti against Morocco. Lopes Cabral's goal was one of a 12-goal shortlist drawn up by FIFA and voted on by the public. Lopes Cabral's celebration also entered World Cup lore as he broke free of teammates reaching to grab him before climbing into the tribune to hug his girlfriend and look for his mother. "Before the game, I'd told my mom and my girlfriend that if I scored, I'd run over to them," he said. "When I got there, I saw my mom crying. She hadn't even realised I was right there. Everyone was busy tending to her because she had fainted when I scored."
