UK Regulator Ofcom Moves to Block BT Openreach Network Discount
The UK’s communications regulator has moved to block an “aggressively discounted” offer from BT Group Plc’s wholesale broadband subsidiary, Openreach, for the first time, citing competition concerns.
Ofcom plans to ask Openreach to withdraw an upcoming discount for internet service providers who bring new full-fiber customers onto its network, it said in a statement on Tuesday. Steep price cuts for new customers could harm competition by targeting users who might otherwise go to one of the UK’s alternative network providers, the regulator said.
