The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has held a video call with multi-award-winning British director Christopher Nolan, prompted by the major international success of the film adaptation of "The Odyssey". According to a statement from the Greek leader's press office, Mitsotakis congratulated the filmmaker on bringing the Homeric epic to the big screen and thanked him for the film's contribution to boosting global interest in ancient Greek culture. As the statement notes, the prime minister said that productions on this scale serve as a bridge between Greece's rich cultural heritage and contemporary filmmaking. Mitsotakis also highlighted the film's strong box-office performance, expressing his appreciation for the fact that a significant part of the shoot took place in Greece. Global box-office hit The Odyssey is already emerging as one of the year's biggest film successes. According to the latest box-office figures, the movie has taken in more than $639 million worldwide, with around $353 million coming from international markets and over $284 million from the United States and Canada. It has also recorded the strongest opening of Christopher Nolan's career, underlining audiences' keen interest in this new cinematic take on the Homeric epic. Greek landscapes on the big screen Greece was one of the main locations for the production. Key scenes were shot in Messinia, including on Voidokilia beach, in Nestor's Cave and at Methoni Castle, sites that are closely linked to Homer's world. The production also filmed in other countries, including Italy, Morocco, Iceland and Scotland, with Greece's natural scenery occupying a central place in the film's visual identity.
