A man has died aboard a Liberian vessel in north Queensland.
Emergency crews responded to reports the man was critically injured in an industrial incident at the Mackay Harbour about 7:30pm yesterday.
The man was on board the ship when he was struck by a "large metal beam", a spokesperson from Queensland Ambulance Service said.
A Queensland police spokesperson said the man died at the scene.
In a statement on Thursday, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said it was investigating the incident on the M/V Bruce and extended its "deepest sympathies to the seafarers' families, friends and colleagues".
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
North Queensland Bulk Ports, which manages the Port of Mackay, has been contacted for comment.
