A 41-year-old woman tragically died after falling from a cliff at a UK beach earlier this month, an inquest has heard.
On Monday July 2 Rachel Anne Gwilliam was visiting Pentreath Beach on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall when she fell from a height off a cliff. Emergency service crews were called to the incident at around 12:30pm.
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said a person was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance. A land ambulance, two air ambulances, and an operations officer were sent to the scene and conveyed the patient by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital.
HM Coastguard also confirmed that crews from Mullion and Porthoustock also attended the incident, alongside an RNLI lifeboat from Lizard and a search and rescue helicopter from Newquay, Cornwall Live reports.
Rachel was admitted to Derriford Hospital for treatment but sadly her condition did not improve and she died on July 21. Her cause of death was listed as traumatic brain injury sustained in the fall.
The coroner has opened an inquest into her death. Senior Devon coroner Philip Spinney told a short public hearing that Rachel Gwilliam was born in Reading in Berkshire and lived in Billingshurst. She was married and worked as an accountant.
Mr Spinney adjourned the inquest. A full hearing will take place at a later date.
