Asian stocks are off to a choppy start on Thursday, while bond markets have taken center stage after the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged, with three officials dissenting in favor of a hike. Investors dumped 30-year Treasuries, sending the yield to a 19-year high, and the dollar slid amid concern that Kevin Warsh won’t manage to rein in inflation that has run above the Fed’s target for five straight years.
Geopolitics remains a focus after the US military launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian targets, following a threat from President Donald Trump to retaliate forcibly for a recent attack.
As for Indian stocks, the Nifty 50 posted its best gain in more than six weeks on Wednesday, led by software and consumer staples stocks amid a broader rotation away from regional AI plays. Even so, the index remains short of momentum, as we write below. For traders, it is a packed day when it comes to earnings. Bajaj Finance, M&M, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Hyundai India, Swiggy and Life Insurance Corp. are among firms set to report as the results season winds down.
