First attempt that failed On August 7, 2022, the inaugural flight of the SSLV rocket departed from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. The vehicle carried the first AzaadiSAT and the EOS 02 satellite. While the launch was successful, the final speed was not sufficient to keep the equipment in the planned orbit. They entered an unstable trajectory and returned to the atmosphere shortly after. To remain around the Earth, a satellite not only needs to gain altitude but it must also achieve the correct speed and direction. Otherwise, gravity causes its reentry into the atmosphere. This is how the first unit of AzaadiSAT ended up lost. The failure occurred during orbital placement, without preventing the flight data from being analysed for a new attempt. This means the satellite began travelling around the Earth maintaining a more regular distance from the surface. Space up close The group consisted of about 750 students from 75 Indian schools with each institution participating in preparing small experiments intended for the satellite. One of its purposes was to bring girls closer to activities related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
