Andy Paul Ferrarone, 33, was climbing in in California when he slipped on a rocky slope, plummeting about 20ft and suffering severe head trauma. He sadly died three days later as a result of his injuries
A father-to-be has tragically died during a freak accident while rock climbing in California.
Andy Paul Ferrarone, 33, was climbing near Castle Rock in Big Bear on July 12 when tragedy struck. At around 5.25pm local time he slipped on a rocky slope, plummeting about 20ft and suffering severe head trauma, police said.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Aviation Unit raced to the scene and started CPR before he was air lifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. He spent days on life support before he sadly died on July 15.
He is survived by his wife, Nina, who is nine weeks pregnant.
A GoFundMe page has been set up in order to raise funds for Nina during this difficult time. A message ont he fundraising page reads: "Nina is 8 weeks pregnant, and while she bravely committed to keep the baby, she now faces the challenge of preparing for parenthood alone.
"As a flight attendant, Nina took time off work when she learned she was expecting, and now she must navigate rent, a mountain of medical bills, and the costs of welcoming a child without Andy by her side.
"Donations will help Nina cover Andy’s life support medical bills, pay rent, and purchase essential baby supplies and necessities for her first year of motherhood. Your support will give Nina a chance to keep the home she and Andy made in San Diego, and ease the financial burden left in the wake of Andy’s passing.
"Andy and Nina were known for their warmth and outgoing spirit, and the love they shared touched everyone around them. By helping Nina, you honor Andy’s memory and ensure his legacy lives on through their baby."
So far just over $58,000 has been raised via the fundraising page.
