A Bangladesh Foreign Ministry official told ANI that Dhaka had received the invitation and forwarded it to the prime minister’s office. Bangladesh, which is not a Brics member, was invited as a special guest because it currently chairs the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), according to the official.
