The victims are believed to be parents 47-year-old Artem Voronov and his 41-year-old wife Olena, seven of their children and their 18-month-old grandson, according to local media. It happened as Moscow’s troops tried to exact revenge on Ukraine for recent ‘deep strike’ attacks inside Russia by targeting President Volodymyr Zelensky’s home region Kryvyi Rih. The latest Russian onslaught involved 70 missiles and over 280 drones. Dozens of "ordinary homes, civilian businesses and infrastructure facilities" were destroyed or damaged in the attack, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It is believed he was not aware of the family deaths when he issued his first statement. Two homes were blitzed in the village of Radushne in the Kryvyi Rih district of Dnipropetrovsk region, according to Ukraine’s Kyiv Post newspaper. The children who disappeared in the strike were Mark, 17; Dominika, 16; Viorika, 14; Zakharii, 13; Azarii Ilai, 11; Federika, nine; and Emilia, seven. The couple’s grandson, also named Artem, was just 18 months old. It is thought his father is serving in the Ukrainian military and is in the artillery. One of the couple’s sons, Matvii Voronov, is reported to have learned of his family’s death from a local village online forum, Ukrainian media reported. Rescuers are still trying to identify the remains of some of the victims. Voronov asked in the chat what had happened to his family after the attack. Neighbors had to inform him that everyone had died – his parents, seven siblings, and his young nephew were all in the house at the time of the strike. One of the children’s elderly female relatives told a local news outlet the couple had ten children and three grandchildren. The youngest grandchild was visiting them when the missile struck and died with them. The woman said: “Dania, the father of little Artem, graduated from the academy, he’s now a captain. He serves in the artillery forces. Aurika is in Germany, Matvii is in Poland. Mark studied very well at the technical college at YuHOK, he was an honor student. The parents invested everything in their children.” The strike completely destroyed two private homes and damaged five others. Several fires broke out but have been extinguished by emergency crews. Some victims will have to be identified from body fragments due to the severity of the blast. The channel wrote: “One missile. One family. One home that became a mass grave for the dearest people. This was not a strike on a military target. This was a cynical strike on a peaceful Ukrainian family. On children who should have lived, dreamed, grown up. On parents who were building their home, raising children, and believed in the future.” It is thought to have happened as the Kremlin launched major attacks across eastern Ukraine, the capital in the centre and all the way to Lviv in the west. Polish fighters were scrambled as the latest attack got underway and there were fears Russian was making an incursion in a cross border raid. But Polish authorities have found a crater in the eastern Lublin Voivodeship after an air raid alert was triggered during Russia’s latest mass missile and drone attack. It followed reports that one or two missiles may have entered Polish airspace as Russia launched a large-scale strike on Ukrainian cities.
