Residents of the Stone Haven Woods subdivision, which sits directly adjacent to Wisdom City Church on Wattles Road in the Detroit suburb of Troy, say the low-frequency thumping vibrates through their homes throughout the weekly services. Addressing the Troy City Council during Monday’s public comment session, neighborhood resident Tad Roumayah described the ongoing disruption, ABC affiliate WXYZ reported. “It’s been almost a year now,” Roumayah told city council members. “It’s like living next to a concert venue. Many of us are also Christian and we attend church. “We go to church. The bass is booming. We come home from church, the bass is booming for hours longer.” Roumayah was one of four residents speaking on behalf of 18 households affected by the noise. Neighbors reported that the sound penetrated their walls during worship services, which occur on Sunday mornings as well as select weeknights. “Constantly having that loud bass hearing from your house is, I think, it’s very annoying,” resident Roger Li told the outlet. “Very annoying. It’s actually predictable. “It’s on schedule. It’s not like once in a while maybe we can tolerate it, but this is constant, every Sunday, every Wednesday kind of thing.” Fellow resident Bo Jin expressed similar frustration over the church’s music. “It’s very disturbing,” Jin said. “Throughout the day, it’s difficult to concentrate.” Jin added, “I just hope (they) stop before they can make a good sound proofing. I believe this is their style to worship, but at the same time, they should keep this to their property.” Municipal authorities acknowledged the complaints but noted that enforcement has presented challenges for local law enforcement. “The Troy Police Department has been receiving noise complaints since September of 2025, and our officers have been responsive to those complaints,” Courtney Flynn, communications director for the city of Troy, told WXYZ. “They gone out, but every time they have been out to the church, they have not heard (anything) that warrants an excessive noise citation.” Residents, however, pointed to delays in response times as the reason police have not issued citations. “(Officers) did came to my house,” Jin told the outlet. “They said ‘oh, I don’t hear anything.’ I said, ‘Yes, because it’s 30 minutes late.’” City officials stated that they were seeking an amicable solution that addressed neighborhood concerns while respecting the church’s legal protections. “We, as a city, are trying to take a holistic approach to this to ensure residents are heard but also that we are respecting the worship rights of the church,” Flynn said.
