Asia Sony to Start Phased Restart of Quake-Hit Sensor Plant Tuesday Sony Group Corp. said it will begin a phased restart of its image sensor factory in Kyushu on Tuesday, after a magnitude-7.1 quake and numerous aftershocks shook Japan’s southwestern island. The company estimates the factory will regain pre-quake levels in output by mid-August. Sony’s plant in Kumamoto prefecture produces image sensors used in digital cameras, surveillance systems and advanced driver-assistance systems for automobiles. The site doesn’t manufacture smartphone image sensors.
