Warped relationship of vile mum and paedophile boyfriend who murdered two-year-old Isabelle WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. EXCLUSIVE: As Alexandra Walker and Harrison Simpson are jailed for the murder of two-year-old Isabelle Rose Welsh, questions are being raised about how the vile couple could commit such horrors behind closed doors Bright and bubbly with an infectious smile, little Isabelle Rose Welsh's life was cut short in circumstances that are near impossible to comprehend. The two-year-old suffered a campaign of heinous abuse at the hands of her mother Alexandra Walker and boyfriend Harrison Simpson. Eventually, it became too much for Isabelle's little body to fight. After a violent assault, the tot collapsed from severe injuries in her home in Thornaby, near Middlesbrough - with careless Walker taking hours to raise the alarm with medics. She died in hospital the following day. "For weeks this child had been violently assaulted, and her death - by that terrible head injury - was simply the end point in that campaign of violence to which she had been subjected," prosecutor Richard Wright KC told Teeside Crown Court. This week, the deplorable couple were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, with minimum terms of 22 and 28 years respectively. Jurors unanimously convicted Simpson of murder, while Walker was convicted by a majority of 11 to one, with both convicted of child cruelty. Paedophile Simpson was also found guilty of sexual assault of a child, a charge which Walker was cleared of. The court heard that Walker had concerns about her partner Simpson when they began their relationship. So much so that she looked up his name on the Sex Offenders Register. But she disturbingly ignored the signs. The pair met in the summer of 2025 on Facebook and entered into a warped relationship, where drugs, alcohol, 'attention seeking' and child cruelty were front and centre. Walker had been subjected to domestic violence in a previous relationship, the court heard. Simpson wasted no time in luring his way into Walker's home to prey on Isabelle. This isn't uncommon in predatory abusers, Stacey Ashman, a therapist trained in forensic psychology, tells the Mirror. "Nobody falls in love faster than an abuser looking for their next victim. "They're very, very quick with the love bombing, and if they figure out that somebody is already vulnerable, i.e., as with Walker, she has just come out of or has been in a long-term abusive relationship. They know exactly what they're doing." Within weeks of Simpson entering Walker's life, those who knew and loved Isabelle began to notice worrying differences in the once happy and bubbly toddler. Following one visit, Isabelle's concerned maternal grandmother said that the tot, whose leg was broken, "looks like she is being abused". The true horrors of the suffering came to light on September 13. After receiving a 999 call from Walker, paramedics arrived at the two-bedroom house to find that Isabelle was covered in bruises. She wasn't breathing and was already cold to the touch. Despite valiant efforts on behalf of the paramedics, the following day, Isabelle died from her grave injuries, the extent of which became apparent after a post-mortem was carried out. The little girl had suffered 21 broken bones in the weeks before her collapse and had sustained a catastrophic head injury, with a shattered skull and brain damage. She'd also been sexually assaulted. There was, the court would later hear, no way that any mother could have missed what was going on. In the beginning of their relationship, Walker found Simpson's preference to see her and Isabelle together "weird". In other messages exchanged with her mother, Walker described Simpson as "a homeless romance scammer". But despite all the signs, she didn't call things off. Reflecting on this unthinkable decision, Stacey, who has worked with survivors of trauma, says: "Her threshold for what she counts as alarming has already been worn down before she met him." She added: "I don't feel like that this is a case of a mother who simply failed to notice what was happening. I think it's a case that shows how a predator walks into an already vulnerable home situation, exploits it, and there will be very little resistance from the person that's vulnerable—the mother. "He didn't really need to work too hard on overpowering her, and she was already a victim of trauma in her previous relationship. That had already done the work for him." On social media, Simpson portrayed himself as a family man intent on setting a good example for young children. In reality, he was a depraved peadophile. One post, seen by the Mirror, shows an image of a man telling a young boy: "Gangsta isn't fighting, stealing or killing. Gangsta is handling your business, taking care of you and your family. That's a real G!". Another post showed a man walking along with a child, above a list entitled, 'Rules to teach your son'. This lengthy list of 32 'rules' included advice such as, 'Hold your heroes to a higher standard', and "Stand up to Bullies. Protect those bullied." The final point says: "In all things lead by example, not explanation." This online persona doesn't surprise Stacey, who says: "This kind of predator wants to appear to be a great dad because what they're doing is they're micromanaging what everyone's vision of him is. "So, he can not be looked at as the person who has caused the damage or the pain. Because, 'Hey, look, guys, this is how good I am. This is how good a father I am. I'm going to teach my child that'. "We look at it, and we can see that it's problematic, but in his mind, he thinks he's micromanipulating everybody. It's appearance. The only people who really know what this person's capable of are the people who are living with him. What he portrays to everybody else is very different." In other posts, Simpson appeared to adopt a victim mentality, seemingly believing he was being judged for past mistakes. In one, he shared a message shared by another Facebook user, which read: "Don't rub my past in my face cuz we all did s*** we ain't proud of." In another, he alluded to steering clear of unspecified "drama", with a quote misattributed to the late rapper Tupac Shakur: "I'm at a point in my life where I just want my family happy, my health good, my mind right, my finances flowing and no drama". In another post, which now appears eerie considering his fate, the paedophile shared a post from Visit Shropshire, advertising 'A Night Behind Bars' experience at Shrewsbury Prison. The advertisement enthuses: "You may choose to head off in search of spirits or simply experience sleeping in a real prison cell. It's your night, so it's your choice." The offline Simpson could not have been more different to his sanctimonious and defensive online persona. While he and Walker were only together for one month, it was enough time to destroy and ultimately end Isabelle's brief life under the most harrowing circumstances imaginable. Their short, grim relationship was marred by substance abuse and violence. The two at-home cameras installed by Walker, one of which overlooked the rear of the house, captured evidence reflected in a back window, giving a glimpse of the couple's sordid domestic life. As shown in camera footage, Walker would sometimes down as many as 10 cans of Stella Artois, while Simpson was a habitual cannabis smoker. Disturbing images show an intoxicated Walker jabbing herself with a knife, while she was supposed to be looking after Isabelle. At times, the pair would sell cannabis, with Walker explaining how her self-harming, captured on CCTV, was an attempt to wriggle out of such dealings. CCTV footage also showed that Isabelle had suffered a broken leg while being cared for solely by Simpson, who had also bathed the child without permission while her mother attended a doctor's appointment. But even as Simpson's campaign of terror became impossible to ignore, Walker did nothing to stop him. On September 2, 11 days before Isabelle's death, Walker took her daughter to North Tees Hospital's emergency department, claiming she'd hurt herself by poking her leg through her cot. By this point, Isabelle's leg had been broken for days without treatment. An X-ray determined that the little girl had suffered a spiral fracture to her tibia, with her injuries sparking concerns among nurses and paediatric staff. Wright, prosecuting, told the court: "The response of Walker was not the response that you might expect in a concerned mother who had just been informed that her daughter had a broken leg that had gone untreated for several days or weeks. "Instead, Walker became aggressive and stood up to challenge the nurse. She told her that it was unnecessary and over the top for her daughter to be admitted. She demanded to see another doctor and then declared that she was taking her home anyway." This callous approach was repeated when Isabelle lay dying. Walker didn't immediately ring 999 as it became clear her daughter was in a serious condition. Instead, she first smoked a cigarette in her kitchen while Googling "why would my toddler be bleeding". Walker also first called her stepfather to come over. It was only upon his instruction that she finally called emergency services. Commenting on this behaviour, Stacey said: "This is not the normal kind of motherly mindset. This is somebody who is extremely vulnerable, knowing that she's let her child down, not wanting to admit that, and not wanting to get herself in trouble, which she did." Walker and Simpson both denied murder, allowing the death of a child, sexual assault and child cruelty. In court, they turned on each other, with Simpson's barrister, Nicholas Lumley KC, arguing that it was "trotting out the old stereotype" to blame the man, not the woman. Meanwhile, Walker's barrister, Mark McKone KC, argued she "would not and did not" harm Isabelle, claiming she'd been unaware her daughter was being abused. Mr Wright said Walker did not protect her daughter, saying: "On the contrary, she delayed, she deflected, and she failed to act when action was most urgently required." Following his arrest, Simpson refused to answer police questions and did not testify at trial. Meanwhile, Ms Justice Norton asserted that Walker was "a fantasist and an attention-seeker" who'd "lied from start to finish". Addressing Walker, she said: "Right to the very end, your interest was not in Isabelle, but in yourself."
