Sun Pharma withdraws 11 eye medicines

The products covered are Depopred 2ml, Brinolar (BKC Free), Brinzotim Eye Drops 5ml (BKC Free), Lotepred 5ml, Lotepred 1% Eye Drops 5ml, Lotepred LS 0.2% Eye Drops 5ml, Lotepred T, Nepalact OD Eye Drops 3ml, Nepalact-Z, Toba-F and Nepalact E/D 5ml NEW DELHI: Eleven ophthalmic products marketed by Sun Pharma have been withdrawn after the company's distribution arm directed retailers to stop further supply and withdraw existing stocks from the trade channel, according to a communication accessed by TOI. The July 17 communication instructed distributors to discontinue further distribution of the products.The products covered are Depopred 2ml, Brinolar (BKC Free), Brinzotim Eye Drops 5ml (BKC Free), Lotepred 5ml, Lotepred 1% Eye Drops 5ml, Lotepred LS 0.2% Eye Drops 5ml, Lotepred T, Nepalact OD Eye Drops 3ml, Nepalact-Z, Toba-F and Nepalact E/D 5ml. These medicines are widely prescribed for glaucoma, post-operative inflammation, allergic eye diseases and bacterial eye infections. Responding to TOI, a Sun Pharma spokesperson said: "We have initiated a proactive voluntary withdrawal of some ophthalmic products as a matter of abundant precaution. Product quality and patient safety are important to us." The company, however, did not specify the reason for the withdrawal of products or clarify whether it was linked to any manufacturing or quality issue.
