Two people were bucked off one of Broome's camels during a ride on Cable Beach, in Western Australia's far north, over the weekend.
Footage shows two people trying to hold onto the camel on Saturday evening after the spooked animal broke away from the rest of the group.
The couple are flung from the camel and hit the hard sand, as it continues to buck up and down.
A St John Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics took a woman in her 60s to Broome Hospital, under priority two conditions, which indicates a serious injury.
WA Country Health confirmed one person had been discharged from Broome Hospital, while another person was in a stable condition.
It was not known what caused the camel to go rogue and break away from the group.
Camel rides on the picturesque Cable Beach attract tens of thousands of tourists every year.
Considered a quintessential part of a Broome holiday for many, the camel rides have been operating since the 1980s.
It is understood two tourists involved in the incident were part of a larger travelling group.
Shire of Broome president Chris Mitchell said such incidents were uncommon.
"Our thoughts are with those injured in the incident, and we wish them a speedy recovery," he said.
"Camel tours are a longstanding and much-loved part of the Broome experience, and incidents like this are rare.
"Broome continues to be a safe and welcoming destination, offering unique experiences enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year."
A representative from tour company Red Sun Camels said they were unable to comment.
