Airbnb guest mortified after discovering what's beneath floor panel in room A man staying in an Airbnb felt like he was living in a horror movie after discovering a hidden room beneath the floorboards - and people online were quick to share their thoughts Staying in an Airbnb can throw up all sorts of surprises. It still remains incredibly popular worldwide, featuring roughly 290million estimated users with many guests searching for the perfect rental to create some memories. Now one man got a little more than he bargained for during a recent stay. The guest was having a look around the property when he came across a chair positioned in a peculiar spot. Since his intrigue got the better of him, he decided to shift the chair to one side which is when he stumbled on quite a big secret and now he can't shake it off. In a social media post, he showed how he uncovered a red wooden floor panel concealed beneath – hidden under the floorboards. Unable to resist a peek, he lifted the hatch to find a narrow staircase descending to another closed door below. Posting a video of the find online, he confessed the sight instantly gave him the creeps. He said: "I rented an Airbnb and noticed there was a chair sitting over what turned out to be a hidden floor panel. I didn't go down there because it didn't feel right." The next morning, the man claimed matters took an even more unsettling turn. The guest said he believed he heard what sounded like footsteps coming from beneath the floor, though he conceded he couldn't be entirely sure what the noise was. He continued: "The whole thing just felt really unsettling. What do you think that space is for? And should I go down there because I'm really curious to see what's behind that door?" The chilling discovery rapidly clocked up thousands of views, with plenty of people drawing comparisons to scenes from well-known horror films. One viewer quipped: "Various Evil Dead films, Barbarian and The Cabin in the Woods have taught us that you absolutely should go down there and mess with any books, tape recordings and artefacts you find." Another person commented: "We had a creepy cellar like this at a very old house we rented. The house was built in 1890. So that used to be where they kept 'cold' stuff and jarred stuff and what not. "It was still freaky as hell. The internet guy went down there and when he came out spiders were leaping off of him." A third simply asked: "What in the Barbarian did you find yourself in?" Others took a more pragmatic view, suggesting the concealed space was probably an old cellar or basement that would have been used for storing food, rather than anything more sinister. While the man didn't specify where the Airbnb was, the company ensures guests alert them immediately if they're in a similar position. The main thing is to not open any hidden doors and to report anything suspicious to them. Secret rooms But it turns out he isn't the only one to have uncovered a secret room in a home, as one student discovered a secret room behind a wall in his basement. He explained how he rented an "old mansion" with some friends while carrying out his studies because the rent was "dirt cheap". Although the building was "falling apart" around them, they came to love their rented home, living there for more than two years. The Pittsburgh student called his friends down to the basement before plucking up the courage to peer down in to the room - but nothing could have prepared him for what he saw down there.
