The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an allergy alert for Lay's Sour Cream & Dill Crisps because of undeclared allergens. Food importer ASR Solutions Ltd were forced to recall the popular snack because they contain milk and wheat (gluten), which are not mentioned on the label. The affected product was sold in Home Bargain stores and involves all 125g products with a best before date up to and including 31 October 2026. ASR Solutions was advised by the FSA to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers, explaining why the product is being recalled and telling them what to do if they have bought the product. The notice read: “ASR Solutions Ltd is recalling Lay's Sour Cream & Dill Crisps 125g sold through Home Bargains stores as the product contains MILK and WHEAT which is not mentioned on the label. This means this product is a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to MILK and WHEAT.” It continued that those who have bought the product and have an “allergy, intolerance or sensitivity to Milk or Wheat” should not consume it. “Check if you have bought the affected Best Before dates. Only these codes are affected. You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or by writing down the best before date for a reference at home.” Customers were then encouraged to return any affected product to your local Home Bargains store for a full refund or contact [email protected] if they require further information. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused.” The product poses a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease. Milk and wheat allergies can lead to an immediate allergic reaction in some cases. This can include anaphylaxis, the most severe form of reaction, which can be life threatening.
