Emergency services were called to the intersection of Beaudesert and Granard Roads in Rocklea at about 6:30pm on July 29, following reports a hatchback had launched into the side of a Brisbane City Council bus. "The driver went straight into action and assisted the driver of the car, and he's also a driver that has a really good record with council as well, he's served for at least seven years and had lots of commendations from the public," he said. The driver could be heard over the radio saying, "Mate everything's ok, we're fine" after checking on the woman. The 45-year-old Pallara woman was taken to hospital in shock. No serious injuries were reported. The bus was headed back to the depot when the crash happened, with just the driver and his wife onboard. Police later said the driver of a black SsangYong vehicle had attempted to merge from a centre lane and turn off near the intersection. The SsangYong driver, a 66-year-old Durack man, was later fined $690 and lost three demerit points for driving without due care and attention.
