Guatemalan authorities issue 'danger' alert after Fuego volcano erupts

Fuego is considered by seismologists to be one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Guatemalan authorities issued an alert indicating danger on Monday night, one below the highest emergency alert level, after a major eruption of Central America's most active volcano. "An orange (danger) alert has been declared nationwide due to the eruption of the Fuego volcano," said disaster coordination agency Conred on X as it began evacuating two villages nearby the volcano, located 35 kilometres from the capital Guatemala City.
