Thousands of wasps take over home as man 'stung all the time' in horror infestation and is forced to flee Craig McDonald said he had to leave his flat in Greenock, Scotland, due to a severe wasp infestation that has seen him and all his pets targeted by thousands of aggressive insects A man has been forced to repeatedly flee thousands of wasps after they infested his top-floor flat and descended on him, his dog and two cats in a relentless two-week assault. Craig McDonald, 38, said he and his pets have been "getting stung all the time" after the aggressive insects set up camp in the bedroom of his Greenock, Scotland home a fortnight ago. He is now unable to enter the room out of fear of being assaulted by the insects, causing a "serious impact" on his health and wellbeing. He has hit out at his landlord for failing to deal with the "nasty" situation, claiming they denied it couldn't possibly be a wasp's nest due to the time of year - despite the country having just entered peak wasp season. Craig said Oak Tree Housing Association has failed to deal with the wasp nest in the roof space or get rid of the insects, and fears he may have to leave his home altogether until the infestation is cleared. He has been increasingly worried about the health impact they are having, as their bedroom takeover means he hasn't "had a decent sleep in 10 days". Craig said: "This is having a serious impact on my health. I am worried about my dogs and my cat. I have not had a decent sleep in 10 days. I can’t get to my bed. We are getting stung all the time. It is nasty. "I had contacted Oak Tree and they told me it couldn’t be a wasps’ nest because of the time of year. Then they sent in pest control. The guy was spraying something on to the roof. But then he went and put on all his protective gear, while I was standing in a pair of trousers, and asked me to help plug the gaps." "It made no difference, and the nest is still there. I need rid of it. I asked environmental health to come to my flat but they said I had to contact Oak Tree." The swarm of wasps took over the bedroom after getting through cracks in the ceiling. Craig said: "My neighbour was concerned about something in the loft. We spoke to Oak Tree but they said it was more likely to be rare bats, so leave them alone. Then I ended up with wasps in my bedroom." The infestation has taken root during peak wasp season, with pest controllers noting that the insects manufacture their nests and multiply between April and October. During that time, numbers of the pest tend to rise exponentially between June and July and peak in August, before dropping when temperatures cool. Wasps are also spurred by heatwave conditions, as they're more active when the weather is warmer, and they can use the sunlight to boost their movement. Craig said that Oak Tree had contacted him to send pest control to his home again, but he warned them he would not be in, as he had been forced to leave for a period. He added: "I needed a break, so I went to my mum’s, and I told Oak Tree this. I told them to send someone the day after, and I would arrange to be in. They need to do something." "I cannot live in here. It is a health hazard. I am in agony from the stings. It is horrendous. I am worried about my pets. I am trying to protect them because they don’t know what is happening to them." In response, Oak Tree Housing said: "We are aware of the issue raised by Mr McDonald and are dealing with him directly with a view to resolving the matter as quickly as possible.
