Bride makes hilarious wedding day mistake after priest leans in with holy cloth Lauren Bruce was left red-faced on her wedding day after she mistakenly used the priest's holy cloth for an entirely different purpose to which it was intended to be A newlywed has shared footage of the embarrassing moment she got the wrong end of the stick completely during her church wedding ceremony. Bride Lauren Bruce has since become somewhat of an internet celebrity after more than 18 million people tuned in to watch her nuptials faux pas. Her 21 seconds of fame began when the priest overseeing the proceedings reached over her, and the groom held what she believed was a tissue. Weeping in joy as many do at their weddings, Lauren presumed the kind gesture was to enable her to wipe her eyes. But how wrong she was! In a bid to spare Lauren's blushes, the priest calmly allowed her to not only dab her eyes, but also blow her nose - only for her to quickly realise the significance of the tissue. "Thank you father," she could be heard saying. However, she clarified in a caption: "Please enjoy this video of me thinking our priest was handing me a tissue, but was in fact putting his holy cloth on our hands to bless us!" She added in disbelief: "Father was too stunned to speak." The clip concluded with Lauren looking around at the congregation, unable to contain her laughter. Writing in response, one TikTok user commented: "Please please please tell me the priest laughed though." A second person joked: "My body is actually getting hot because I’m so embarrassed and it’s not even me." A third added: "The fact that you realised makes it 10x better. I am not religious at all and I would have thought the same thing." While a fourth TikTok user shared a similarly embarrassing tale: "It’s so funny I really laughed, I did a thing at church when the vicar said to go round everyone and say peace be with you, but I thought he said pleased to meet you, and I’ve never quite recovered." What is the holy cloth, anyway? The cloth is known as a 'stole', which is worn by priests and, at Catholic weddings, is wrapped around the couple's hands to symbolise their indissoluble union and God's blessing on their marriage vows. Where Peter Is elaborates online: "We call the union of husband and wife indissoluble because, united in the Lord, their marriage bond cannot be broken. It’s a truth based on the Incarnation itself: when God became man, he united his divinity to our humanity. "The humanity and divinity of Christ are distinct yet inseparable. So, too, the union of husband and wife: each of them is distinct yet their union is inseparable, like the humanity and divinity of Christ. "And their union is meant to be a visible reminder of the love that Christ has for his bride, the Church, and that the Church has for Christ, her bridegroom."
