Emergency services were called to Hornsea at about 6pm after reports that the boy had got into difficulty in the water. Emergency crews, including Hornsea Inshore Rescue, HM Coastguard and Humberside Police, are involved in the search. The RNLI said its Bridlington all-weather lifeboat has been launched. Chief Superintendent Phil Booker said: "Our priority now is to find the boy, and members of the public can expect to see specialist Police Search Advisors, along with our Marine Unit and drone pilots, who have also been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue operation to locate him." Key Events Speaking at the scene, the BBC's Phillip Norton described the atmosphere as "subdued", with emergency services "dotted along the sea wall as far as the eye can see". He added: "Watching on are dozens of members of the public, many looking out to sea where the search has been taking place. "A lifeboat can be seen about a mile offshore, and a coastguard helicopter has been searching up and down the beach and waterline here for some time." Emergency services were called at around 6pm to a report that a boy had got into difficulty while swimming off the coast of Hornsea, East Yorkshire. HM Coastguard, the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Humberside Police were all deployed to the South Promenade area of the seaside town. Chief Superintendent Phil Booker, of Humberside Police, said: "After receiving the report, officers were immediately deployed alongside other emergency services and upon attending, it was discovered that a 13-year-old boy had reportedly got into difficulty whilst swimming in the water. "Our priority now is to find the boy, and members of the public can expect to see specialist Police Search Advisors (POLSA), along with our Marine Unit and drone pilots, who have also been deployed to conduct an extensive search and rescue operation to locate him. "We would urge people to please avoid the area where possible to allow emergency services to work efficiently and safely, and refrain from speculating on the circumstances of the incident. "Our enquiries continue to ascertain the full circumstances around the report, and we would ask anyone with any information that may assist us, to please speak to the officers in Hornsea, or contact us via our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 415 of 4 August."
