Comedians Dana Carvey and David Spade mocked the idea of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's pied-à-terre tax on Sunday after the city published a searchable database of property owners.
"Well, Mamdani's going after billionaires in New York," Carvey mentioned on his "Fly on the Wall" podcast. "If you have a second home in New York, he wants you to pay more tax."
"Yeah. I think it was a bit of a stumble to post online all the people that have second homes and their addresses because, you know, you can't say after he says you should protest in the streets and then say that. I would be worried if I was a guy with that," Spade said.

"It was a little weird, but yeah," Carvey said.
The two continued to discuss Mamdani after Carvey made a mocking impression of the mayor threatening to drop a "tax bomb."
"He really bombed it. But it was a lot of famous people. It said their houses, and I was like, 'ohhh,'" Spade said, with Carvey agreeing that it was "dangerous."
"I don't know. They got kids. I don't know about that," Spade added.
"Just tax them," Carvey remarked.
The pied-à-terre tax, endorsed by Mamdani and passed by the New York State Legislature in May, imposes an annual surcharge on certain high-value New York City homes worth more than $5 million that are not the owner's primary residence.
Months later, on July 24, New York City published a list of more than 900,000 properties in a "supplemental market value roll" without explaining that the vast majority of them would not be getting hit with the pied-à-terre tax.
When reached for comment by Fox News Digital, a city official clarified that this was not a pied-à-terre list but a state-mandated roll to be used by the Department of Finance (DOF) to examine which properties will be subjected to the property surcharge.
Since then, the DOF has clarified that it has sent surcharge letters to approximately 17,000 homeowners who could be subjected to the tax. Mamdani has said that citizens have until Sept. 18 to qualify for an exemption if they believe their properties do not apply to this tax.
Partnership for New York City CEO Steven Fulop previously lamented the release of the roll, pointing out that while the list was public information, it has been aggregated and framed in a way that targeted citizens.
"I don't know if it's an invitation to physical violence....I would say that the way that it was framed was shaming people for being successful, which is a fundamental problem, and I do think highlighting that the majority of those residences are vacant for the majority of the year and giving their address is not productive from a safety standpoint," he told "America Reports" Thursday.
Fulop, a fellow Democrat, also added, "I think we started with the constructive outlook trying to find places to work together. It's becoming more and more difficult because [Mamdani] is focused on performative stuff as opposed to substantive policies that work with the business communities. I mean we're still trying, but it’s been difficult."
