Police have shared the horror conditions found inside a home where a man who had Down's Syndrome was found dead now a woman has been charged with his murder.
At around 9.18pm on Thursday August 10, 2023, emergency services were called to an Alice Street residence in Ayr, south of Townsville in Queensland, after Isaac, also known as ‘Ike’, was located unresponsive. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the circumstances, police commenced a suspicious death investigation, and a crime scene was established.
Investigations into the death of 56-year-old Isaac, who has Down's Syndrome and was non-verbal, have been complex, with detectives conducting extensive and thorough inquiries into his health, care and treatment throughout his life.
Extensive investigations and forensic medical examinations were conducted, including a thorough post-mortem, which revealed Isaac was experiencing serious malnourishment weighing just 29kg at the time of his death.
Following a 'complex' three-year investigation, a woman aged 70, has now been arrested by police and charged with murder on Tuesday.
Bodycam footage showed the moment police visited the home and the inside of the property was in complete disarray. Officers were forced to walk through narrow ravines, with cardboard boxes and various miscellaneous piled on either side. Furniture was completely hidden by clothes and containers.
A Queensland Police statement reads: "Detectives from the Crime Command Homicide Investigation Unit and Ayr Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a woman following investigations into the death of a 56-year-old man in Ayr in August 2023.
"A 70-year-old Forest Lake woman was arrested by detectives yesterday and charged with one count of murder (domestic violence). She is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
