Student who finished Arctic to Africa mega triathlon now plans to run 'round the M25' in memory of fiancée The M25 is the next challenge for university student who completed Arctic to Africa triathlon in memory of his beloved fiancée The university student who just finished a 61-day triathlon from the Arctic to Africa is now planning his next fundraiser - around the M25. Matthew Hollingham, 25, wants to run around the notorious London orbital motorway. He will run a 114-mile back-road route that follows the full length of the road. Again he will be raising funds in memory of his fiancee Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre who was tragically killed in a hit and run road accident. Because pedestrians are banned from the motorway, he will navigate the distance of the M25 via a network of minor roads and underpasses that follow the route. He said: “I’ve long held the view that to fundraise with an endurance event - to capture attention for a good cause - you have to do something sufficiently stupid sounding - and what’s more moronic than running the M25? “Obviously I can’t run on the actual London Orbital as it is illegal and would probably infuriate several thousand commuters. “But there exists a network of side roads and footpaths running parallel - in between and all around in a convoluted maze - that I hope to circumnavigate the M25 on, raising as much money as possible for children’s charities. “This M25 run will be an immense next step for these causes, and I hope to raise as much as possible. I know this isn’t what Margaret Thatcher envisioned when she opened the M25 in 1986, and I have no idea how I am going to cross the Thames at Dartford, but I welcome any advice I can get for this event. “It’s know it’s going to be impossibly difficult, but I tend to finish these sort of things, especially with Lovisa in mind.” Last week the Mirror revealed how Matthew from Wheathampstead, Herts, swam through icy cold water, ran 37 marathons and cycled 1,865 miles through eight countries to raise £30,000 for children's charities. It was such an extraordinary achievement that quadruple World Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington called it: “A mind bendingly epic feat.” Matthew told the Mirror: “I did it all for Lovisa, and I would do it again to see her one more time. She is, and will always be, my fiancée.” He admitted the latest decision to keep his next challenge firmly on 'home tarmac' was made with family in mind, with the last trek being "more of a strain on them than it was on me". His fundraising has been in memory of his Lovisa who was killed after being hit by a car while attending Pennsylvania State University in September 2023. He said: “Off the back of my Arctic to Africa triathlon I fundraised for children’s charities in honour of my late fiancée, Lovisa. “I chose these causes as Lovisa always wanted to be a mother, and so for me, it’s giving back to the children she never had. She left a void of kindness in the world, and so I am doing my best to fill it.”
