Man charged two years after the death of schoolboy, 12, in alleged hit-and-run Dolars Aleksanders, 23, has been flown to the UK and charged with causing death by dangerous driving after an alleged hit-and-run that left a 12-year-old boy dead Police have charged a man over the death of a Coventry schoolboy after he was killed in an alleged hit-and-run in 2024. Dolars Aleksanders was detained last month and flown to the UK yesterday (August 5). Keaton Slater, 12, was killed in the incident on Radford Road in June 2024. Aleksanders, 23, was wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but allegedly fled to Latvia. Aleksanders was flown into Gatwick Airport yesterday and taken to custody in the West Midlands after police worked with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the National Crime Agency (NCA), and other partner organisations to bring him back to the UK. He has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court today (August 6). A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A man has been charged over the death of 12-year-old Keaton Slater in Coventry after he was extradited from Latvia. Dolars Aleksanders was detained last month, and we have since worked with other agencies, including the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and National Crime Agency (NCA), to bring him back to the UK. “Aleksanders was flown into Gatwick Airport yesterday and was then transported to a custody block in the West Midlands. He has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following the fatal hit-and-run collision in Radford Road in June 2024. “He has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court today (August 6). His parents continue to be supported by specially trained officers, and they have been fully updated around these developments. We thank them for their patience and support during our investigation.” Ben Samples, of the Crown Prosecution Service, added: “We have decided to charge Dolars Aleksanders with one count of causing death by dangerous driving following a police investigation into a fatal road traffic collision that led to the death of Keaton Slater. Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court to pursue criminal proceedings. “CPS West Midlands has worked closely with West Midlands Police, Home Office, the Latvian authorities, Europol, the Joint International Crime Centre (JICC), CPS International, and our Extradition Unit to bring Mr Aleksanders back to face proceedings in a UK court for an alleged crime that took place here.”
