NEW DELHI: The government has directed online intermediaries to block 7,393 links involved in film piracy, including 4,996 Telegram channels and 1,263 websites, the information and broadcasting ministry told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. This was disclosed in a written reply by minister of state for information and broadcasting, L Murugan, to a question on the circulation of pirated films, OTT shows and other audiovisual content through Telegram and similar platforms. The government said it had strengthened the legal framework against online film piracy through amendments to the Cinematograph Act in 2023.
