More alleged victims surface in child sex abuse case against paediatrician

A Perth paediatrician who allegedly recorded himself abusing children in his clinic has been charged with another 15 child sex offences against seven more alleged victims. Chia Liang Saw, 41, was first charged on May 30 this year, with the court hearing he came to the attention of police after allegedly communicating with a self-described "paedophile vigilante", whom Dr Saw's lawyer said had "taken on the persona of a child". Dr Saw last appeared in court in early July accused of more than 50 offences. He is now facing 72 charges relating to 18 alleged victims after an extensive investigation launched, according to police. The new charges include six counts of indecent dealing with a child under 13 years old, three counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13 years old, and one count of producing child exploitation material. The other five new charges relate to allegations Dr Saw indecently recorded children. It was also alleged Dr Saw admitted deleting incriminating material. Prosecutors told the court Dr Saw had expressed feeling "shame and distress", with the defence counsel saying his client's name was now "mud". But the defence lawyer said Dr Saw's explanation for the clinic recordings was that they were made in an effort to protect himself from allegations of "untoward behaviour".
