Celebs Go Dating's Anna Williamson's mortifying meeting with King Charles Anna Williamson, the relationships expert on the Channel 4 dating show, has spoken candidly about a disastrous meeting with the monarch, recalling how she stumbled onto the King and accidentally spat food in his face A television personality has recalled her mortifying meeting with King Charles, which ended in her falling on the monarch and accidentally spitting food in his face. Anna Williamson, relationships expert on Channel 4 ’s Celebs Go Dating, appeared on Joe Marler’s podcast, where he asked her to recall her most embarrassing celebrity encounter. The therapist says she had ‘a few encounters that spring to mind’ but perhaps her most memorable moment was her first meeting with King Charles. Anna explained to Marler that she had met the monarch due to being a long-time ambassador of the King’s Trust, previously known as the Prince’s Trust. She explained that her first meeting with Charles, when he was still Prince of Wales, was during a reception in the gardens of Highgrove in Gloucestershire. Anna recalled that she was balancing a small plate of risotto when the opportunity to greet the King arose, and she was unsure of the correct protocol to introduce herself. She said on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast: “The King came over and you can curtsey or do a variety of things that are respectful - a bow, a handshake - and I sort of did them all at once.” The relationship expert explained that during her curtsey, she lost her footing in the pavement, and fell into the King, all while still in the middle of eating. “He had to sort of push me back into place once I fell, and I spat risotto into his face,” she said. “I looked p***ed. So not only did I spit pea risotto on our now monarch, but I stumbled mid-curtsey because I over committed and fell into him. I had to be pulled off him.” Marler’s co-host Jake Bhardwaj then quizzed if Charles’ security were worried about the incident, to which Anna explained that they were lovely and helped her back on her feet. She said: “Everyone was quite chill, it was more the people I was with who were all laughing at me. Charles himself did offer to collect me and stand me back up again with security, but that was how I broke the ice with the King.” Marler responded: “Certainly a unique way of doing that.” Anna’s anecdote is not the first time Joe Marler’s podcast has had a royal connection. During his visit to the UK in July, Prince Harry appeared on the podcast as he made a candid admission about his hair loss, gave an exhaustive list of his occupations, and spoke about the lasting legacy of the Invictus Games. During their chat, the Duke of Sussex joked about being bullied as a child over his hair colour. Joe questioned Harry as he asked what is one thing people get wrong about him, as he quipped, while maintaining a straight face, that people say that he is ginger when in fact his hair is more of a ‘sunset auburn’ colour. Harry and Joe then went on to chat about occupations, where Harry made a lengthy list for those tuning in. "Full-time dad. British Army veteran. Prince of England. Duke. But for today, I don’t know. What do you want?" As they all settled on calling him Duke, talk soon turned to the Invictus Games, which sees wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans take part in the Paralympic-style games every two years in a different city around the world.
