The incident took place as the man "had slipped and fallen a considerable distance" down Moss Force near Newlands Hause in Cumbria at around 2.40pm on Sunday. Members of the public rushed to help before the emergency services arrived. Mountain rescue teams, an air ambulance, the police and the fire service were sent to the scene but the man was pronounced dead due to his injuries. A statement released this morning by Keswick Mountain Rescue Team reads: "A multi-agency response was initiated following a report that a man had slipped and fallen a considerable distance down Moss Force near to Newlands Hause. "Visitors to the waterfall, including off duty medical professionals, provided initial support whilst emergency services made their way to the scene. Sadly, despite the best efforts of all involved, the man died as a result of his injuries. "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the man’s family and friends." It is understood the man was in his 70s. Cumbria Police said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file was prepared for the coroner.
