Patna erupts after fatal bus accident; mob torches vehicles, storms police post

PATNA: A pedestrian was killed after being allegedly hit by a bus in Bihar's capital Patna on Friday, triggering protests during which an angry mob set vehicles on fire and vandalised a police post, officials said. The incident occurred on NH-30 in the Chhoti Pahadi area on Friday morning, according to news agency PTI. Patna SDPO-1 Raj Kishore Singh stated, "A man crossing the road in Chhoti Pahadi area was hit by a bus, leading to his death. Angered by the incident, people torched the bus." He said the situation was brought under control following police intervention. An FIR has been registered at the Traffic police station in connection with the incident, Singh added. Traffic police station SHO Neeraj Thakur said three police vehicles and several motorcycles were also set ablaze along with the bus. The crowd also vandalised a police post, he said. According to officials, some members of the crowd allegedly assaulted journalists who were present at the spot.
