A mum and dad charged over the death of their one-year-old son have been pictured for the first time.
Kylie Smith, 25, and Adam Johnson, 26, both from St Helens, have been charged with causing or allowing the death of little Maero Johnson, Merseyside Police said today.
Officers were called shortly after the one-year-old died in hospital on August 23, 2023, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Merseyside Police said a Home Office post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death was ketonic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition.
The force said a second child had been found to be "neglected and under-developed".
Smith, of Holly Bank Street, and Johnson, of Hempstead Close, have also been charged with child neglect and possession of a controlled class B drug, cannabis.
The pair are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 13.
