Government in Supreme Court: Audio clips linking Biren to Manipur unrest doctored TNN / Aug 08, 2026, 03:58 IST Comments Share AA Text Size Small Medium Large The apex court ordered that a copy of NFSU’s six-page report on the audio clips be supplied to both the petitioner and the Centre’s counsel NEW DELHI: The Centre told the Supreme Court on Friday that audio recordings allegedly linking former Manipur CM N Biren Singh to the ethnic violence in the state were manipulated.Additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati told a bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Sanjeev Sachdeva that the forensic lab’s findings indicated that the recordings contained multiple alterations.“I want to urge that this writ petition be dismissed with costs. I spoke to the CFSL doctor, and I told them to send me a letter, and they have sent me a letter. This is clearly manipulated,” she said.The bench directed that the latest forensic report prepared by National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) be shared with Kuki Organisation for Human Rights, which is seeking investigation into audio clips allegedly implicating Biren Singh in the state’s ethnic violence. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, said the report prepared by a forensic laboratory ‘Truth Labs’ had concluded with over 93% certainty that the voice in the recording was of Singh.The apex court ordered that a copy of NFSU’s six-page report on the audio clips be supplied to both the petitioner and the Centre’s counsel.
