Hong Kong temperatures exceed 38 degrees as Severe Typhoon Dolphin brings extreme heat Forecaster says extremely hot weather is expected to continue into early next week Temperatures exceeded 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) in parts of Hong Kong on Saturday as the city’s forecaster warned that extremely hot weather would persist over the coming days. The Hong Kong Observatory said Severe Typhoon Dolphin was bringing high temperatures to the region, with the heat expected to continue into early next week. “With [Severe Typhoon] Dolphin moving towards the vicinity of Zhejiang and northern Fujian, its outer subsiding air will persistently bring extremely hot weather to the area in the next couple of days,” the Observatory said. A very hot weather warning was issued at 6.45am, while the Labour Department issued an amber heat stress at work warning about 15 minutes later. The temperature reached 34.1 degrees at the Observatory’s headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui at around 1.30pm. Elsewhere, temperatures climbed well above 35 degrees in the afternoon. Sheung Shui recorded the city’s highest temperature, reaching 38.5 degrees shortly before 2pm. Temperatures of 37.1 degrees were also recorded in Yuen Long Park and at The Peak.
