Murder probe launched after dad, 56, killed in ‘violent’ village street brawl Anthony Jones, known as Tony, 56, from Brecon, died in hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries during violent disorder in Wales on Thursday evening. A murder inquiry has been launched, and seven men have been arrested by police after a 56-year-old died. Following a violent disturbance near Pontypool, Wales, on Thursday evening, three men were taken to hospital, with two of those initially said to be in a critical condition. Gwent Police has confirmed one has since died after sustaining life-threatening injuries. Officers were called to reports of "violent disorder" involving a group of men in Mill Street, at around 7.15pm on Thursday, August 6. Anthony Jones, known as Tony, 56, from Brecon, passed away in hospital. His family are being supported by specialist officers. In total, seven men – aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 - have been arrested in connection with the disorder. All seven remain in police custody. Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley said: "We recognize that reports of this nature will cause concern in our community, but we have officers working around the clock conducting inquiries as part of the investigation. "We're trying to establish the movements of those involved both before and after the disorder and are asking motorists who were driving along Hospital Road, Mill Road and the surrounding areas between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday to check their dashcam footage. Forensics officers were active at the scene, placing evidence markers on the ground outside Pontnewynydd sports and social club.
