Huge search at Weymouth beach for missing woman who 'entered sea' and 'failed to return' Police, the Coastguard, RNLI and a police helicopter are involved in a major search for a woman feared missing after entering the sea in Weymouth. A huge search has been launched for a missing woman who was seen entering the sea at Weymouth beach and is not believed to have returned. Police, the Coastguard, RNLI and a police helicopter are involved in the search after the woman entered the water at around 11.05pm on Saturday. A member of the public raised the alarm after reportedly seeing her enter the water for Weymouth Esplanade but did not re-appear. The missing woman is described as being of average build with long hair and was seen getting into the water with a long, flowing dress which is a lighter colour at the top. She is believed to have been on her own at the time, but none of her belongings have been found on the beach. Dorset Police said officers have been carrying out searches while growing "increasingly concerned" for the woman's welfare. Inspector Mark Latter, of Dorset Police, said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for the woman’s welfare and are carrying out enquiries to locate her. “The woman was on her own at the time of the incident and no belongings have been found following a search of the beach area." He continued: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed a woman matching the description in the Weymouth Esplanade area at the time of the incident to contact us. “I am also directly appealing to the woman to get in touch with us if she has left the water and is safe and well.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police by calling 999, quoting incident number 8-598.
