Hiker collapses, dies on Hong Kong trail as city swelters in record-breaking heat Man in his sixties collapsed on Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail and was later pronounced dead A hiker collapsed and died in the Tai Po countryside on Sunday afternoon as Hong Kong endured its hottest temperatures since records began 142 years ago. Police said they received a report at 2.17pm that a man in his sixties had been discovered unconscious on the Plover Cove Reservoir Country Trail. Firefighters and rescue teams assembled at the reservoir dam before heading up the mountain, with the Government Flying Service also dispatched. The man was located but was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause of death has yet to be determined. The incident came as the city sweltered under record-breaking heat driven by the subsiding airflow of Severe Typhoon Dolphin.
