NEW DELHI: Jharkhand Police on Sunday said it was prepared for the planned Assembly march by JPSC-JSSC aspirants in Ranchi, assuring protesters that they would not face action if the demonstration remained peaceful. The assurance came hours after a second round of talks between student representatives and the state government, with the administration agreeing to consider some of their key demands but failing to resolve the issue of a CBI probe into the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination.Ranchi City SP Paras Rana said adequate security arrangements were being made as a large number of students are expected to participate in Monday’s “Vidhan Sabha gherao”.“Precautionary force deployment will be carried out effectively; the Ranchi Police is fully prepared. There will be a large number of students. Instructions have been issued to all Ranchi Police personnel that if the protesters conduct themselves peacefully, no inconvenience will be caused to anyone,” Rana said.“However, if anyone attempts to resort to violence, appropriate legal action will be taken against them,” he added.
Rana also clarified a controversy surrounding a viral video that appeared to show security personnel carrying a pellet gun.“If a pellet gun is being carried, it is strictly for emergency situations. Regarding the viral video - what is being mistaken for a pellet gun is actually a paintball gun; it fires soft, coloured balls used to mark and identify troublemakers. It is not a pellet gun,” he said. The police officer said any pellet gun, if deployed, would be kept strictly for emergency situations.Meanwhile, student leader Ravindra Paswan said the government had agreed to consider cancelling three examinations - the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination, JPSC Backlog 2023 and JPSC Backlog 2025.Student are set march towards the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha on Monday after government agreed to cancel the 14th JPSC, JPSC Backlog 2023, and JPSC Backlog 2025 exams but rejected the demand to scrap the CGL examination, saying it was conducted under court orders and selected candidates are already employed.
On the CGL examination, students demanded a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities. The government instead proposed a judicial inquiry headed by a retired judge.Student leader Kunal said the “Vidhan Sabha gherao” would be held peacefully but maintained that the demand for a CBI inquiry into the CGL examination remained non-negotiable.“Let me clarify that our Vidhan Sabha gherao will continue peacefully. Our demand is for a CBI inquiry; we will not compromise on that,” Kunal said. The students have been protesting over alleged irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations and are demanding accountability and reforms in the examination process.
