Koepka calls his play in return to Tour 'pathetic'

After failing to make the FedEx Cup playoffs, five-time major champion Brooks Koepka described his performance in his first season back on the PGA Tour as "pathetic" on Sunday. Koepka carded an even-par 70 in Sunday's final round of the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, and was tied for 68th at 3 under. The former world No. 1 golfer is projected to finish 94th in the FedEx Cup standings. The top 70 golfers will play in next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, the first leg of the playoffs. "Yeah, pretty disappointed," Koepka said. "I think it's pretty pathetic that I can't get through. Zero top-10s basically in two years. To be in the prime of your career and be as good as I think I am, I think that's very pathetic, disappointing. Just need to go home and completely reevaluate everything." Koepka's putting was again a problem this week. He lost nearly 2.5 strokes on the greens over 72 holes and was 68th in the field in strokes gained on the greens. Entering the week, Koepka ranked eighth on approach (.606) but 116th in putting (-.199). "Ball-struck it great," Koepka said. "It's just all on the greens. I don't know what the deal is. [I've] got zero confidence [and] can't putt. I don't know. There's going to be a lot of changes here soon." After leaving the LIV Golf League and returning to the PGA Tour in January, Koepka had a nice stretch of three straight top-20 finishes during the Florida Swing in March, including a tie for ninth in the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. That would end up being his only top-10 finish in 15 starts this season. He missed five cuts. As part of the Returning Member Program that allowed Koepka to return to the tour, he agreed to forfeit any player equity shares for the next five years and wasn't eligible for the $100 million FedEx Cup bonus program in 2026. Koepka, at the PGA Tour's request, also agreed to make a $5 million donation to charity. Koepka told reporters Sunday that he plans to play a couple of tournaments in Europe and perhaps a few tournaments later in the PGA Tour's fall schedule. "It's been great," Koepka said of his first season back on tour. "Honestly, I've loved it. I feel fantastic. The reception's been great. Overall, happiness is 10 out of 10 and just excited."
